From Amy Dorsey

My two weakest intelligences were Naturalistic and Kinesthetic. I participated in MANY activities throughout the week to strengthen this area. Our expression through dance, making instruments, teaching content through drama, creating and singing songs, etc. were all ways to actively participate in the learning process. The area of naturalistic intelligence was stretched through our field trip. Walking through the park, seeing the play in the outdoor theater, and just appreciating the breath taking view through the Sandburg's eyes allowed me to grow as a naturalist.

From Ed Connelly

I really enjoyed the Muse Machine Institute. My weakest areas were “logical” and “verbal.” I have strengthened these two areas in a number of ways. Just by knowing that the Logical Intelligence area was weak, I tried to concentrate on order and sequence while working on my project. I also tried to separate each area of instruction, and then put it back together in a logical sequence so that I would be prepared to share the information that I learned while taking this course. My verbal abilities were strengthened while reading, writing and communicating with other classmates.

From Teresa Cusaac

My MI weaknesses were interpersonal and verbal. With all the singing, dancing, composing and chanting, I couldn't help but "get stretched" this week. It truly was a lot of fun and I'll take that fun and excitement back to my classroom in the fall.

From Diane Carter

The areas of multiple intelligences I scored the lowest in were musical and naturalist. I improved musically by working with others cooperatively in my group to choreograph a dance to a piece of music provided by Sylvia Rex. I also improved my naturalist intelligences by walking on a trail, wtching the fish in the pond and enjoying a play outside performed by the Vagabond Players at the Carl Sandburg House in Flat Rock, N.C.

From Cecilia Sutton

During this week, I was able to solidify the labels for each MI. I was also able to learn different way of teaching subjects through the variuous MIs. I hope to learn and apply more ways of teaching so that I can reach more children in Music. I'm ready to soar! Thank you for giving me the PUSH!

From Kay Coleman

This week I was very atuned to my weakness which are visual and verbal/logical too. I still don't know how verbal is a weakness, because I am a very verbal person. We all laughed at that one. It made me look at myself in a new perspective. I'm learning to ask more questions about things think more in a scientific way. I'm working on being more picture smart through the use of more pictures and drawings. I'm going to continue to work on these weaknesses and be very aware of ways to introduce the multiple intelligences into my classroom.

From Harriett Crank

The answer to the question, "How have I stretched myself during the week of June 20-24th?" Let me count the ways...
1st, Keeping an open mind that learning occurs in many ways and being supportive and receptive of new teaching styles.
2nd, Learning about myself as a "learner" and concentrating on the areas of my own weaknesses. For example, speaking out in front of my peers when I know I am low in the linguistic area of my intelligences.
3rd, Being able to look at all the children that I teach and search for their particular way of learning-by knowing the different intelligences-and building on that area for success.
Thank you for guiding me into the direction of teaching using the Arts.

Thanks to everyone!

Hi Muse Class Participants,

Just a quick note to tell all of you how great it was to be with you last week! You are all exceptional educators, and I hope your Muse experiences will help you in your work in the coming year.

Please keep me posted on your activities. I'll be mailing a follow-up questionnaire to you all in October. It will be short! We just want to find out if you are using information from the course in your daily classroom activities. The purpose of this is to help us plan next year's quest presenters and disciplines.

Those of you who are interested in starting a Muse Machine Club in your school, please contact me. I'll be happy to meet with you and explain how the program works.

Again, many thanks to each one of you for your enthusiastic participation! If you would like to receive information throughout the year from our office, please let me know. We'll start an email list and will send appropriate information when it comes up.

from Jennifer

My name is Jennifer Diehn and I am an Orchestra Director at Dawkins Middle School in District 6. I am also a wife and mother of a 2 year old and a 5 year old and I play the cello.
On the MI survey I scored very high on Interpersonal strength. I love to be around people and enjoy teamwork. This is one of the reasons I choose teaching as a profession. I also scored high on Musical strength. I have loved music my entire life.
I am looking forward to spending time with adults during this course.
I spend most of my time with middle schoolers and toddlers so being around adults and doing fun activities really excites me. I guess my biggest expectation is that I am going to have fun and learn at the same time.

3) Describe one expectation you have about the course.

Please do this before June 9 at 10pm. Then return to the site and make a comment to one of your fellow students from June 12 at midnight.
